Members Tour of The Easton Collection Center at Museum of Northern Arizona

Wednesday, February the 25th at 10:45am

$40 Per Person: Includes Admission Fee

Limit of 12 Participants

Join Richard McGaugh and Monica Buckle for a private behind-the-scenes visit to The Easton Collection Center at Museum of Northern Arizona (MNA). We have the privilege of being guided through the impressive collections by

The Easton Collection Center (ECC) houses most of MNA’s collection, and is an architectural masterpiece combining the most advanced environmental design techniques with the worldviews of the region’s Native people. Dedicated in June 2009, the ECC is named in honor of the facility’s donors, Betsy and Harry Easton. The ECC provides a stable and secure environment for collections, with optimal ranges of temperature and humidity; a fire suppression system; protection from insect damage; and a high degree of security.

Built in consultation with a Native American Advisory Committee, the building faces East to greet the rising sun and has a curving shape to invoke the cycles of life. The building lobby captures dramatic views of the sacred San Francisco Peaks. A glazed solar aperture next to the main entry door casts rays from the rising sun onto the structure’s inner door on the vernal and autumnal equinoxes and marks the path between the summer and winter solstices on the inner wall of the building’s vestibule. The exterior landscape design consists of plants native to this region.

We will meet at the ECC building at 10:45am, our tour starts promptly at 11:00am. Please note, transportation is not provided.

After the tour, join us for a fun group lunch at Fat Olives restaurant, which is a 10-minute drive from MNA. Please note, lunch is a separate expense.

Richard McGaugh is from a fourth-generation Verde Valley family and has spent his time studying and exploring Central and Northern Arizona. Richard is a VVAC Docent and Volunteer. He is also a VIP Interpretative Ranger at Walnut Canyon National Monument and Wupatki/Sunset Crater National Monuments. Richard also serves as a VIP Docent at the Museum of Northern Arizona.

This excursion is exclusive to VVAC members. Advance registration is required.
