Prehistoric Pottery of the Verde Valley Course

This hands-on course is being offered again due to popular demand! In this course you will learn how to identify pottery found in the Verde Valley, gain an understanding of the people who first started to classify pottery, its design and construction, recognize which pottery is Indigenous to the Verde Valley, and which pottery is intrusive. As well as what it means to present-day archaeologists and how the public should treat pottery and sherds when seen in the field and at cultural sites.
Dr. Jim Graceffa is one of the founding members of VVAC and served as the museum's Board President from 2010 to 2019. Additionally, Jim has been the past President of the Arizona Archaeological Society Verde Valley Chapter, a Site Steward with Arizona State Parks & Trails, and continues his commitment to VVAC by serving as the museum's Volunteer Archaeology Lab Manager.

Required Materials
A 10x power loupe (can be purchased at VVAC).
Textbook and all materials are included in the course fee, and are provided by VVAC.
