Trip Leaders, Richard McGaugh and Monica Buckle

Limit of 10 participants

$220 per person

Take a road trip to the Colorado River area near Laughlin, Nevada. We will meet in Bullhead City the afternoon of Tuesday, February the 25th and check-in to our hotel, the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Bullhead City. Join us that evening for a group Welcome Dinner located at The Ranch Bar & Grill at Laughlin Ranch Country Club. Approximately, a 10-minute drive from our hotel.

The following morning, Wednesday, February the 26th we take a 5-mile drive to Grapevine Canyon where we will spend the day. The hike is a short gradual climb hike total distance less than a mile. Grapevine Canyon is in the Spirit Mountain Wilderness and Lake Mead Recreational Area. The area features over 700 petroglyphs and many rock shelters. The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, and mapping of the estimated 250 panels of petroglyphs was conducted in 2009.

The area was inhabited by the Patayan culture, which is sometimes known as Hakataya. Ataya (pah-tah-yáh) comes from the Pai linguistic branch (Hualapai, Havasupai, Yavapai, and Paipai) or the Upland Yuman-Cochimí language family, and translates loosely to "Old People". The Pai People, including the Yavapai, could have connections to the area. Both the meaning of the images and their creators remain unclear although the area was inhabited by the Mojave.

After a fun day visiting incredible rock image sites and venturing in the Lake Mead Recreational Area, we will have a casual group dinner at El Charro Mexican Restaurant. Approximately, a 5-minute drive from our hotel.

The following morning, Thursday, February the 27th we will check-out of the hotel and travel back.
