Red Tank Draw is a short walk down into Rarick Canyon. We will see many petroglyph images. Some of the more spectacular are on the East side of the draw, where we will be walking over roughly 80 feet of river rock.

Meet at 10:00am at the junction of Highway 17 and 179, this would be the Southeast side of the intersection and caravan to the trailhead. There is ample parking right off the 618-forest road where we will meet. High clearance vehicles such as an SUV will get closer to the trailhead, the group might have to consolidate into that type of vehicle for the last ½ mile.

Bring snacks or lunch, water, hiking sticks, a hat and sunscreen. There will be a short walk-through desert vegetation.

The hike leader is Richard McGaugh who is from a fourth-generation Verde Valley family and has spent his time studying and exploring Central and Northern Arizona. Richard is a VVAC Docent and Volunteer. He is also a VIP Interpretative Ranger at Walnut Canyon National Monument and Wupatki/Sunset Crater National Monuments. Richard also serves as a Docent at the Museum of Northern Arizona.

This hike is exclusive to VVAC members. Advance registration is required.
