Wednesday, February the 28th: 10:00am

Guided by Richard McGaugh and Monica Buckle

Limit of 12 Participants

Join us on a fun outing down in the Valley. We start our day with a docent led tour of ASU's Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve that features a rock art trail, Native desert plants, and animals in their natural habitat. As well as, galleries of on-going Southwest archaeology research by ASU faculty and students.

After our Deer Valley tour we will have lunch at a popular local restaurant, Manuel's Mexican Restaurant & Cantina. After a nice lunch we will then journey South to S'edav Va'aki Museum (formerly Pueblo Grande Museum).

S'edav Va'aki Museum is recognized as the gateway to the cultural history of the Phoenix area. The museum is located on a 1,500-year-old archaeological site left by the Hohokam culture, and is the largest preserved archaeological site within Phoenix. We will take a docent led tour on a 2/3-mile trail through a prehistoric Hohokam archaeological village site with a partially excavated platform mound, ballcourt, and replicated prehistoric houses. Additionally, there are three galleries to visit whilst at the museum.

The hike leader is Richard McGaugh who is from a fourth-generation Verde Valley family and has spent his time studying and exploring Central and Northern Arizona. Richard is a VVAC Docent and Volunteer. He is also a VIP Interpretative Ranger at Walnut Canyon National Monument and Wupatki/Sunset Crater National Monuments. Richard also serves as a VIP Docent at the Museum of Northern Arizona.
