VVAC Members Hopi Tour with an Authorized Hopi Guide

Trip Leaders, Richard McGaugh and Monica Buckle

Monday, September the 9th – Tuesday, September the 10th

$200 Per Person

Limit of 10 Participants

Join us for a one-of-a-kind guided tour of the Hopi tribal lands led by an authorized Hopi guide! Our journey starts at the Moenkopi Legacy Inn & Suites located in Tuba City, Arizona. The hotel is conveniently situated at the gateway to Hopi. We will check-in to the hotel the afternoon of Monday, September the 9th and enjoy a relaxing evening at the hotel. Our Hopi tour starts the following morning, Tuesday, September the 10th. We will meet our guide in the hotel’s lobby and depart in an air-conditioned van. Below is an itinerary of all the marvelous points of interest along our journey.

Tour Itinerary

8:30 am: Meet our guide in the hotel lobby and enjoy a short discussion on the history of the vision of the elders of the Upper Village of Moenkopi and Experiencing Hopi. We will board the tour van and depart for Coalmine Canyon, one of the hidden gems of Hopi, and have a brief insight into Hopi pottery. Enjoy the Moenkopi Fields overlook while en-route and enjoy some discussion on Hopi agriculture.

Next, we will tour the village of Old Oraibi, the oldest, continuously inhabited settlement in North America. Visit Hopi Arts Trail member Hamana So’oh’s Gallery located in the heart of the village and take a short tour led by our guide followed by a visit to the home workshop of Hopi Arts Trail member and silversmith Duane Tawahongva.

We will stop for a nice lunch at the Hopi Cultural Center’s restaurant. Please know, lunch is included in the tour fee.

After lunch we will visit Prophecy Rock, a single Petroglyph with an enchanting story that discusses the core principles of Hopi life. Following our visit to Prophecy Rock the guide will take us to Dawa Park, a natural box canyon with ancient walls covered with thousands of petroglyphs from different eras. Dawa Park is a window back in time, transporting you to the days of the ancients.

4:00pm: Return to Moenkopi Legacy Inn & Suites

The Experience Hopi Tour includes: Hopi tour fees, transportation at Hopi, and complimentary lunch at the Hopi Cultural Center Restaurant.

Please note, transportation to travel up to Hopi is not included.

The one-night stay at Moenkopi Legacy Inn & Suites is an additional fee. VVAC has a group booking rate. Please call the hotel’s front desk to reserve your room with the group code provided here: VAM24

Complimentary continental breakfast is provided by the hotel. There is also a Denny’s Restaurant adjacent to the hotel that offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We strongly recommend spending the night at the hotel prior to the tour. We will check-out on Tuesday, September the 10th before the tour starts. The hotel has a secured luggage storage room at the front desk, for us to store belongings while we are out on the tour. After the tour the van returns to the hotel and we can then collect our belongings and depart Hopi.
